After a great show in Rio, Olympic medalists PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik, gymnastics star Dipa Karmakar, and badminton coach P Gopichand were felicitated in Hyderabad on Sunday. The ceremony also saw batting legend Sachin Tendulkar congratulating the achievers in Olympics.
Speaking at the ceremony PV Sindu said: “I thank everyone for you blessings to make this possible. I am very thankful to my coach and also Sachin sir for gifting me a BMW car. In the coming tournaments I will definitely get laurels to the country.”
The ace shuttler bagged a silver medal in Rio making her the first women in Indian badminton history to achieve that feat.
Bronze medalist Sakshi Malik also spoke in joy assuring the country a gold in the next Olympics. “I went alone and now I have the entire country with me. Your love for me will definitely turn my bronze into gold in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics,” said Malik.

Gymnast Dipa Karmar who made the country proud with her ‘vault of death’ also thanked for the “immense support” she got to represent the nation.
Pullela Gopichand, the man behind Sindhu’s silver medal, congratulated the trio for their achievements and thanked entrepreneur Nimmagadda Prasad for his contribution to the Gopichand Badminton Academy.
“Years ago when the journey started, I said we would win a medal at the Olympics and many people laughed. Thanks to Nimmagadda Prasad who believed in this made this possible by helping me start the academy. I also thank Sachin for his encouragement,” said Gopichand.
Ending the show with a grand selfie with the five, Sachin Tendulkar said: “On behalf of the entire nation I thank you making the country proud. I thank Gopi for his coaching and being the hero in background. We need you guidance in getting more medals and I also thank other coaches who help in some way or the other who made this possible.”
