Rio 2016 Olympics: Indian Olympian Profiles

India will boast of a strong 121-man contingent at Rio Olympics with the likes of Leander Paes participating in his seventh quadrennial event and shooter Kynan Chenai making his debut. Both hockey squads have qualified for the Olympics and this will be the first time women will be in participating after 1980. In golf, sport returning after 112 years to Olympics, three golfers will be looking to make their mark.

India have their strongest athletics contingent ever with a record number of participants pushing forward for a podium finish. Before we proceed further, it’s very important to know your Olympian! For instance, it is important to know that Shiva Thapa, 22, will be participating in his second Olympics – he made his debut in the 2012 edition. He was the first Indian boxer to qualify for the Summer Games and would hope to put the London horror behind.

Paes, as most are aware, is gunning for something special! At his age, tennis players are planning retirement, but not Paes. The doubles-specialist is raring to fly the tri-colour high in Rio. He will team up with Rohan Bopanna in the doubles category. When it comes to singles, Saina Nehwal is the first name which comes to our mind. The London bronze medallist will look to improve the colour of the medal, and her recent form and fitness levels are an encouraging sign.
