India At Rio Olympics

India will be sending its largest ever Olympic contingent to Rio de Janeiro with 121 athletes (minus staff and hockey backups) to make the trip to Brazil. This will be a bigger contingent for India than the one at London 2012 Olympics which saw 83 athletes participating. Abhinav Bindra, participating in his last Olympics, will be India's flag bearer with the opening ceremony on August 5.

It is certainly the most-awaited Summer Games ever for India. There are plenty of reasons for that. For first time ever, the country can actually expect good performances for possible podium finishes in various contingents. We have fielded our best-ever athletics contingent, Saina Nehwal is carrying the hopes of more than billion people in badminton while wrestling glory, in absence of two-time Olympian Sushil Kumar, rests on the shoulders of the very experienced Yogeshwar Dutt.

In the shooting department, Bindra, again a very experienced campaigner, would look to finish on a high. When it comes to tennis, Leander Paes has a chance to complete his fairytale career with a Olympic medal. Assisting him on the court will be Rohan Bopanna who will team up with Sania Mirza in the mixed-doubles competition. Like every Olympics, India can expect some surprise contenders! Medal or no medal, it promises to be the Summer Games to watch out for, for Indian fans and supporters, in India and around the world.
