A vehicle exploded near a military facility in Turkey’s biggest city of Istanbul on Thursday, CNN Turk reported, the latest in a spate of bombings to hit the country this year.
At least five people were wounded in the explosion, broadcaster NTV said, which hit the Sancaktepe neighbourhood near a military airfield on the Asian side of the city, well removed from Istanbul’s historic heart.

The blast sent a cloud of black smoke up over the streets and CNN Turk said ambulances were rushing to the scene.
Turkey has been hit by a series of bombings this year, including two suicide bombings in tourist areas of Istanbul blamed on Islamic State and two car bombings in the capital, Ankara, which were claimed by a Kurdish militant group.
NATO member and EU candidate nation Turkey is a member of the U.S.-led coalition fighting Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, and is also battling a militant insurgency in its largely Kurdish southeast.
