The Infosys employee missing since Tuesday’s blasts in Brussels made the last phone call that day from a metro train in the city, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said Thursday.

“We have tracked his last call in Brussels. He was travelling in the metro rail,” Swaraj tweeted.

The minister has said that the Indian embassy in the Belgian capital is doing its best to locate Raghavendran Ganeshan, who is originally from Bengaluru and had worked in Pune before moving to Brussels four years ago.

Swaraj had tweeted a photo of Ganeshan on Wednesday evening. She had also spoken with his mother, Annapoorni Ganeshan, telling her that the government is making all efforts to locate her son.

An official tracking the developments said the Indian embassy has been trying to establish contact with Ganeshan since Tuesday evening. “We haven’t been able to locate him and it is a matter of concern,” he said.

Ganeshan, who had visited India last month when his wife gave birth, had spoken with his mother on Skype barely an hour before he left for work on Tuesday morning. “I had a 12-minute chat with my son. I came to know about the attacks when my younger son in Germany informed me,” Annapoorni Ganeshan, who lives in Mumbai, told The Indian Express. “We tried to reach my son on his mobile phone but he was unreachable. His employers and the Indian embassy are in regular touch with us and they have assured us that Raghavendran will be found as soon as possible.”

In a statement, Infosys said, “Following the attacks in Brussels, Infosys reached out to all its employees in the city to ascertain their whereabouts and safety. With the exception of one employee who we are trying to reach, we have been able to connect with all other employees. We are in touch with the missing employee’s family and are working with the Indian Embassy and local authorities in Brussels to locate our employee on priority.”

Ganeshan was with the Infosys Ltd centre in Pune before being deployed to Brussels for a project with Belgian telecom major Proximus, or Belgacom Mobile.

In a Facebook post, his brother Chandrasekar said, “They (the Indian embassy) told me they are searching for him. They have also looked into many hospitals it seems…but still there is no word of him as of yet…We have also tried calling on his mobile….but simply not able to reach sometimes it appears to ring and sometimes it is busy. He has a Lyca mobile…Does anyone have any first hand information of the situation in Brussels…”

He added, “Just for additional information, he usually takes his metro from Merode station to Parc station at around 9…i heard that hundreds of people are unable to come out of the metro station…any leads would be really helpful…”

Swaraj also said that the two Jet Airways crew members injured in the explosions at Brussels airport are recovering well. She said the government is coordinating with the airlines “on alternate plans to evacuate our citizens”. All Indian passengers stranded in Brussels are being provided hotel accommodation, she said.

The airline said its crew members are being given “required medical care” and that it has made arrangements for their family members to travel.
