The attack came hours after the ousted Islamist president was sentenced to 20 years in jail by a court here over charges related to the killing of 10 protesters when he was in power. The attacks targeting police and military increased after the ouster of Morsi in 2013. Over 500 security personnel have been reported killed since then. The military has launched security campaigns in the area, arrested suspects and demolished houses that belong to terrorists, including those facilitating tunnels leading to the Gaza Strip.
