Apart from Mumbai’s rail network, autorickshaws are crucial mode of transportation for daily commuters in the Maximum City. On August 31, the Mumbai Auto Rickshaw Mens’ Union went on a strike in which nearly 1,00,000 autos went off the roads in the city. In a fitting response to these strikes, comes this hilarious video dripping with sarcasm from comedian Sorabh Pant of East India Comedy fame.
In the video, Pant mocks the union of autorickshaws for whom going on strikes has become “a family business” and takes a dig at their demands. The union had demanded that the app-based cab operators like Uber/Ola be banned and that auto-rickshaw drivers be declared “Public Servants”. Pant highlights the irony of the demand by imitating a regular commuter’s plight who has to beg the auto rickshaw drivers to take him to his destination. He goes on to say that the commuters, in fact need app-based services like Ola and Uber to be more widely accessible. The video titled “Strike Against The Autorickshaw: Rant of The Pant”, urges that it’s commuters who should go on a strike against autorickshaw drivers and it is the drivers who should be imploring the customers to use their services.
The video posted on the comedian’s channel Sorabh Pant has struck a cord with many flustered commuters and is going viral over the internet.
