Oops! This still from ‘Main Aur Charles’ places a 2011 ad in the 1980s

In one of the pictures released on the Web, the director seems to have missed out on some "fact-setting".

As the biopic “Main Aur Charles” gears up for release on October 30, promotional pictures and stills from the movie can be seen all over social media. However, in one of the pictures released on the Web, the director seems to have missed out on some “fact-setting”.

The story is set in the 1980s when Charles Shobhraj, serial killer and con man, was at his criminal best. Interestingly, a promotional image with actor Randeep Hooda, who plays Shobhraj in the film, has an advertisement of the State Bank of India’s (SBI) car loan advertisement in the background (should you choose to look past a very serious-looking Hooda).

Now, unless time travel is involved, it is highly unlikely that the real Charles Shobhraj could have been seen sitting around an SBI ad on car loans — especially since the ad in question actually came up around late 2011. Reportedly, SBI started setting up its corporate loan scheme in the mid-1990s and there is no way it could have started its car loan scheme in the 1980s.

The above picture is the same advertisement that can be seen in the still from the movie. Taking a closer look, the fine print says “Offer valid till December 31, 2011”.
