Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Rio stars and Khel Ratna awardees PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik, Dipa Karmakar and Jitu Rai at his residence on Sunday (August 28) in the presence of Sports Minister Vijay Goel. Modi even tweeted about his meeting with the athletes. “Delighted to meet you (Pvsindhu1). Every Indian is so proud of what you accomplished,” he wrote for Sindhu.

Obviously, the athletes were delighted to meet the PM and took to their respective social media accounts to share their happiness but Sindhu, on her Instagram, shared a little more than just that.
If you go through her Instagram account, you’ll see a 21-year-old who absolutely loves dressing up, expressing her love for her mother, friends and ice-cream, while documenting significant moments of her life on social media. She regularly shares pictures with heart-warming captions and makes sure her followers get a glimpse of the regular life of India’s shining star who won a medal for the country at the Olympics. And no, it’s not all about sports! It’s much more than that.
So, when Sindhu met Modi. It was one of THE moments of her life. Meeting the Prime Minister of the country is indeed a page in your life that you might bookmark forever. But in her Instagram post, she wrote that she wished she could do one thing before she met him.
“Just wish I had time to change as I was being rushed from the airport,” she wrote as she explained what an incredible experience it was.
Yes, Sindhu wore a blue knee length dress, and she wished she could change it! But hey, does it matter? Not really!
A lot of people congratulated her on the post and many noticed her little ‘wish’, which they denounced as unimportant. “Congrats sindhu .The biggest day 4 u whatever u wear it doesn’t matter u make us proud make our country proud,” said one. “We love to watch you play and don’t worry about your dressing! It’s the shots that matter .. Not the glam. Keep going girl,” said another.
Now, if only the “whatever u wear it doesn’t matter” comment would apply to all women in the national and global context, especially in the backdrop of the burkini ban in several French towns and the Union tourism minister advising women to refrain from wearing skirts in India, but we’ll leave that discussion for a different article.
PV Sindhu and other athletes have not only met Modi, they were presented the Khel Ratna by President Pranab Mukherjee and how can we not mention the BMWs presented by Sachin Tendulkar!
