Want to bring Narendra Modi home? Well, now you can

Made by soft toy manufacturer Tickles, a Narendra Modi soft toy is now available online. Though the Amazon one was apparently good for teaching kids to love animals, the Snapdeal version is great for showing your support, and Flipkart thinks you Namo's toy version helps build attention span and object recognition.

There would be many kids around the country who would like to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, especially since the PM has always clearly spoken about his love for children and how education is really important. Well, let’s face it, as Modi jet-sets across the country and world, doing his duty as India’s PM, it’s not possible to always gain access to him. Though the monthly Mann ki Baat sessions do help.

As it happens, soft toy company Tickles has hit upon a solution, making Narendra Modi very accessible to kids today by manufacturing a cuddly Narendra Modi doll. The 40cm doll is dressed characteristically like Modi – in an orange kurta, white pyjamas and white jacket.

So far, it seems the doll has been advertised on several e-commerce websites, including Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal. While Amazon seems to have removed the item from its listing and the product page has a disclaimer saying that’s it’s not a functioning page following a report on Huffington Post India, Snapdeal and Flipkart continue to sell the product Tickles Narendra Modi Soft Toy 40 Cm – for Rs1,365, including a 32 per cent discount on Snapdeal and Tickles Narendra Modi Namo BJP Prime Minister Politics for Rs 958, with a 52 per cent discount on Flipkart. That’s not a bad deal for some exclusive time with the Indian PM, no?!

Although, according to Snapdeal, Modi is still Gujarat CM and Prime Ministerial candidate, so the information is a bit dated.

But what is really interesting is the different product description on all three sites. According to a screenshot taken by Huffington Post, the Amazon descriptor was rather amusing: “Delight your little ones this year by presenting them with an adorable soft toy. This soft toy into their bedroom will give them endless hours of fun-filled playtime. Crafted with perfection using the finest materials, this Modi stunning soft toy has striking features. Instill a love for wildlife and introduce your children to the world of animals with this furry little plush toy. Features Non-toxic and soft fabric Soft and Cuddly filling Recommended Age Group – 3 – 6 Years Recommended For – Unisex.”

Whereas, the description on Snapdeal reads: “Narendra Damodardas Modi, popularly known as Narendra Modi is the current Chief Minister of the state of Gujarat and the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate for the 2014 general elections.Narendrabhai Modi is a national leader. Show your support to NARENDRA MODI by flaunting this toy.”

Flipkart doesn’t give a descriptor, but its features list does include “Attention Span Building, Object Recognition, Creativity & Imagination, Sensory Development”.

This isn’t the first Modi doll to create such a stir. Earlier this month it was reported that miniature Narendra Modi dolls were quite popular in Hangzhou, China. Apparently the dolls were being sold just ahead of the PM’s visit to Hangzhou for the G-20 Summit. A local artist had crafted intricate dolls of each of the 20 world leaders attending the Summit.

But then, we bet you couldn’t cuddle them as you can with this one.
