In India we saw a right-wing group celebrating Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump’s birthday in a pompous way. They performed ‘havans’ for his well being and for his nomination.

This time in USA, the ‘Hindu’ supporters of the Republican candidate brought in the man himself to assert his love for ‘Hindus’ and India (but not the secularism of the country, of course). The event called the Republican Hindu Coalition was pegged as a charity event organised to help the “victims of terror particularly Kashmiri Pandits and Hindu refugees from Bangladesh”.

The event hosted in New Jersey was a prolific one in many ways, from Bollywood music and dance to Trump vouching his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and claiming he is a “big big fan of India.”

Indian celebrities from Bollywood, Tollywood and other industries performed at the gala included Pradbhu Deva, Malaika Arora Khan, Shriya Saran among others. But the highlight of the dancing event was not the Michael Jackson’s moon dancing moves but the Indian dancers. The act depicted the dancers being attacked by terrorists with lightsaber-y guns, and were saved by the US Army. The dancers concluded by singing the US national anthem and Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born in the USA’.

There were videos by Anupam Kher and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar too after the dancing event. The campaigners of the #HindusforTrump certainly did research to appease the right wing in the country.

And for the organisers the best part was to get a chance to meet the man himself, Donald Trump. Trump, the honoured guest of the event came and lit the traditional diya to commence to speech and asserted he ‘loves India and Hindus’ in particular.

Here are some of the bizarre things that were found at the event that certainly has taken Internet by storm.

The devils’ horns and 2002 Godhra riots

Trump atop a lotus, just that it’s not orange!

It seems, at this event Trump’s anti-immigration policies took a U-turn.

And some geographical goof-ups on Trump’s part!
