I was really impressed with the Dazen 1 from Chinese smartphone brand Coolpad. It was just the right phone for, more importantly, the right price. Coolpad with this latest Note 3 tries to exactly repeat the same. For those who are not sure about buying a smartphone from a relatively new and silent Chinese brand, be informed that Coolpad is seriously considering the Indian market. They have already partnered with Videocon to manufacture in India and aims to deliver a million ‘Made in India’ phones by 2016.

Coming to the Coolpad Note 3, it is only budget smartphone to offer a fingerprint scanner. Also, for those who love to drool over spec sheets, the Note 3 has enough to excite for the price. After using the device for quite some time, here is my review.

Specs: 5.5-inch 720p HD IPS display | Cool UI 6.0 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS | 13MP rear camera with LED Flash | 5MP front camera | 64-bit 1.3GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6753 CPU | 3GB RAM | 16GB internal memory (up to 64GB expandable) | 3,000 mAh battery | dual SIM | 4G support

Price: Rs 8,999 (Amazon.in)

What is good?

The entire package that you are getting for the price makes the Note 3 a good deal. The performance of the device is decent. I did not face much of problems while gaming or multitasking. The camera quality of the device is really exceptional for the price. On the battery front, the device should last an entire day of average to heavy usage on 3G. Overall, there is nothing much to complain.

What is not that good?

While Coolpad boasts about the spec sheet of the Note 3, it would have been great if it focused a bit more on display quality. You can’t ask more for this price but it could have certainly worked a bit more on the display panel as sunlight visibility is poor and colours lack the punch.

At a price of Rs 8,999, the Coolpad Note 3 should definitely be on your priority list. It is one of the least talked about smartphone, however, it is totally worth every penny you spend.
