5.17 pm: LG G6 comes with 13MP dual wide angle camera on the back. It also has an 100-degree wide angle camera on the front for selfies.
What else is making news:
5.15 pm: LG G6 comes with Google Assistant on it. Google’s Scott Huffman on stage talking about the feature. A long press of the home button or just saying Ok Google will trigger the Assistant. Works exactly like it does on Pixel phones, and the Allo app.
5.10 pm: LG G6 will come in black, white and platinum colour. LG says they’ve done extra battery testing for reliability. Battery is 3300 mAh. Also heat pipes to ensure this phone doesn’t heat up too much.
5.06 pm: LG keen to emphasis: LG G6 is ergonomic, and you can use it with one hand.
4.58 pm: LG G6 will have some games like Temple Run 2, etc in 18:9 format and the Dolby Vision standard.
4.56 pm: LG G6 supports Dolby Vision’s HDR 10, which was previously limited to televisions. It is the first smartphone to support this standard. Offers dramatic image quality.
4.50 pm: LG G6 has a 5.7-inch display, but in a 5.2-inch display body with 18:9 ratio.
4.45 pm: LG’s G6 smartphone’s big focus: Big display that fits in your hand. It has metal frame on the side. Camera doesn’t jut out. LG is calling this is a full vision display.
4.40 pm: LG G6 unveiled. It has a bezel-less display. “Has a big screen that actually fits in your hand,” says company.
4.35 pm: LG Vice-Chairman and CEO Seong-jin Jeo on stage talking about the upcoming smartphone from LG.
4.32 pm: The LG G6 launch event has started. Once again the ideal smartphone wish list video is playing.
4.28 pm: So yeah, it looks like the LG G6 will be water-resistant as well, which is something the company had confirmed earlier.
4.20 pm: So has the LG G6 live started? Well there’s a video on the stream about how people want a smartphone with bigger screen. This is likely to be the highlight of the new G6 flagship phone.
4.05 pm: LG G6 revealed in all its glory by Qualcomm. Apparently Qualcomm tweeted out images of the upcoming phones, well ahead of the launch. And yes, it looks exactly like the photos that were leaked by Evan Blass earlier.
3.32 pm: So it looks like LG’s G6 stream will take some time to start. We’re not surprised by this.
3.27 pm: LG G6 will have a 5.7-inch QHD display with a special 18:9 aspect ratio, and a near bezel-less display.
3.20 pm: Looks like the LG G6 launch is only ten minutes away. According to reports, LG G6 will be running the Snapdragon 821 processor, and not the latest 835. The reason: Samsung apparently has first dibs on the 835 chip, and no new phones with this are expected till after the Galaxy S8 launches.
2.45 pm: For LG, the G6 carries the burden of expectations. The previous phone failed to pose any challenge to the Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 edge. LG’s G6 will need to make a mark in the premium smartphone segment, though right now it looks kind of impossible for the company.
2.42 pm: LG G6 was recently leaked in a new set of images by noted tipster Evan Blass. Based on the images, the phone will come in three colours: black, white, and ‘ice platinum’. It also looks closer to the LG V20 smartphone in terms of design. As we’ve already mentioned LG G5’s modular smartphone wasn’t a hit, and the company is going back to the basics.
2.41 pm: LG is live streaming the event on their YouTube channel as well. The event starts at around 4.30 pm IST, though the YouTube stream indicates LG could start the show by 3.30 pm itself.
2.40pm: So the first announcement of the day is the LG G6 flagship smartphone. Leaked pictures and LG’s own invite have given enough indication the company is doing away with the modular design of the G5, which failed to convince consumers or reviewers. With LG G6, the company is introducing a bezel-less display.
