Itel sixth in India’s feature phone sellers list after first quarter

Itel has marked a new milestone in India, and claims to have sold over 1.4 million handsets, in 11 states. The company has said that they have received an overwhelming response from consumers in the first quarter.

According to a CMR (Cyber Media Research) report Itel has achieved close to 2 per cent market share for feature phones in the company’s first quarter of operations in India. Itel is at sixth position in the feature phone segment overall.

Itel has announced 15 phone until now – seven smartphones and eight feature phones. The company’s feature phones start at Rs 2,000 and smartphones start at Rs 10,000.

Itel has started its second phase rollout in states like Chattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, and Meghalaya – following the success of its first phase of launch in north India markets.

Itel’s offline brand has more than 500 distributors. The company also has close to 3,0000 retailers. The company aims to take the number of distributors to 1,000 and retailers to 80,000 by the end of this year.

Itel Mobile from Transsion Holdings entered the Indian market in late May this year. The company launched 3 feature phones and 3 smartphones in the country on May 20. In an interview with IndianExpress.com, Itel CEO, Sudhir Kumar had said,”India is a very important market for us and as such, we have carefully planned every aspect of our operations in the country.”

Itel mobiles are only available through offline stores with the company holding complete control of the supply chain. Itel is also looking at building their own manufacturing ecosystem in India.
