Microsoft confirmed that Google will be joining the .NET Foundation Technical Steering Group at its Connect conference. Additionally Samsung has showcased .NET Core support for its Tizen OS as well as the new Visual Studio Tools for Tizen. The announcement comes as Microsoft itself became a member of the Linux Foundation as a Platinum member.

In announcement, Microsoft says they have become an active member of the open source community in part  with ‘.NET Core,’ which was made open source. It is a cross-platform application framework which lets developers create websites and services which will run on Linux, Windows and macOS. Microsoft says, Google’s addition to this group will boost the .NET developer community and helps businesses and developers who have standardised on .NET.

In a separate blogpost, Google also confirmed the announcement. Google’s blogpost says, “As enterprises adopt public and hybrid cloud at an accelerated pace, Google Cloud is committed to fostering an open platform.” In order to help developers and their organisations, Google says it is joining the .NET Foundation.

Google’s own Cloud Platform is working to ensure that “.NET has first-class support on Google’s infrastructure, including excellent infrastructure for Windows,” reads the blogpost. Google has offered .NET libraries for more than 200 of its cloud services for sometime now and has been active contributor to the platform.
