

Climathon, a global 24 hour Hackathon, is set to take place on October 28. The event will be held in Vijayawada as well as in 120 other cities in India simultaneously. Climathon will focus on finding practical solutions to specific local climate change challenges. The hackathon will ask participants to come up with direct climate action within their own cities. Users can join this global network by submitting their project or idea. Climathon will also give participants an opportunity to network with local leaders from academia, business as well as public authorities and become a part of a global community.
Top five teams will be selected to move forward with the challenge. The groups will be provided guidance from local officials and the necessary accelerator support during a 5-month development period to complete their ideas. Each team is expected to produce a viable business plan. Following the 5-month period, one winning team will be selected to present their results at the UN’s COP21 conference for a universal Climate agreement.

Challenge description: Vijayawada is the second biggest city in the State of Andhra Pradesh. The economy of Vijayawada is expected to grow by 6 times by 2025. This growth in economy will be through development of agricultural exports, tourism, industries and transportation situated in the city. The challenge is to undergo ideation that will help cultivate innovative business ideas that have minimalistic environmental impact and commit to transforming the sectors. Three key topics will be put up for the participants to address:
