British appliance company Dyson headed for Indian market by 2017

British engineer and entrepreneur, Sir James Dyson has recently announced that he has applied for a business licence to patent and sell his products for the first time in India. Dyson plans to start retail at flagship stores across Delhi and Mumbai, while also getting in partnership with other retailers. The entrepreneur expects to set-up shop in India by 2017, and contribute Rs 12,000 crores to the India economy over the coming five years.

Dyson appliances are available in over 75 countries world wide, and the company claims that 67 million people own their appliances. The company has 7,500 patents to its name. The company employs more than 7000 people worldwide – a third of whom are scientists and engineers.

Speaking at the India-UK TECH summit attended by the Prime Ministers of both India and the UK, Sir James Dyson said, “Dyson intends to make its patented technology available in India for the first time, and build a strong partnership with India which goes beyond our products. India is a very practical, resourceful and inventive nation: these are talents and attitudes that I value above all others.”

The entrepreneur added that India is an exciting place for people developing technologies for the future, and that the India economy is fast growing and vibrant.

Dyson makes a lot of user home appliances that include cord-free vacuum cleaners, robot vacuums, air purifiers, blade less fans, lighting appliances and more. Currently the only Dyson products listed on the company’s India website are hand dryers – Airblade V, Airblade dB and Airblade Tap.

“I am optimistic to see that the Prime Ministers of both our nations are here in Delhi today and that they are putting science, and technology at the top of their agenda. Long may it continue. As Britain embraces the change that Brexit brings, I hope we can once again foster a strong relationship with like-minded Commonwealth friends such as India,” Dyson said in a statement.
