Instagram has undergone a big design revamp; gone is iconic brown-coloured camera icon and the blue and white background inside the app. The photo-sharing app now has a simple camera for its logo with bright pink and purple hues, while inside the app, a white and black theme reigns supreme.
A blogpost explaining the design change says, “You’ll see an updated icon and app design for Instagram. Inspired by the previous app icon, the new one represents a simpler camera and the rainbow lives on in gradient form. You’ll also see updated icons for our other creative apps: Layout, Boomerang and Hyperlapse.”
According to the company, the simpler black and white design puts more focus on “photos and videos.” Instagram has not made changes to how users navigate within the app.

Overall its a cleaner UI that Instagram has picked, perhaps much more 2016 in terms of app design, than the earlier version.
The imposing blue is now all gone; in the search function too, the bar gets less prominence with photos and videos filling up the page. The page for sharing/editing photos is also all white, unlike the earlier black background. The filter tray, which appears when you edit a photo, appears to give a stronger emphasis on the filter applied, thanks to the all-white background.
Instagram, which has over 400 million users and is a part of Facebook, claims that over 80 million photos and videos are shared every day on its platform.
