Nokia is expected to make a return to the smartphone market in 2017. The company has ditched the Windows OS in favour of Google’s Android OS, which has the largest market share. One of the two expected Nokia phones to be launched next year is the D1C, which is possibly the phone shown in the leaked renders that were spotted on Chinese website Weibo recently.

The images shared by Weibo shows a gold device with a ‘Nokia’ marking running on the center back. The back of the phone also shows a camera sensor which is placed vertically above the flash. The render shows the phone with volume rockers and a lock button on the right of the device and a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the top. The bottom of the device shows a charging port and possibly a cut out for the speakers. The front of the device features a rectangular home button along with two capacitive buttons.

Not a lot is known about the Nokia D1C, but the phone has been spotted on benchmarking websites Antutu and Geekbench. The Antutu benchmark done on the device shows the phone to be running on a Qualcomm 430 chipset, along with an Adreno 505 GPU. The Antutu report also showed that the phone will be featuring 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM, while runing on Android 7.0 Nougat. It also shows the phone to be sporting a 1920 x 1080 pixel screen resolution. The benchmark result also shows the the primary camera on the device is 13MP, with an 8MP camera on the front.

The D1C Geekbench 3 test shows that the phone has a 682 single-core score, and a 3299 multi-core score. It shows that the phone is powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core Qualcomm processor with 3GB RAM. A report done by NokiaPowerUser listing a GFXBench test on the D1C has suggested that the D1C is not a phone, but a tablet.

According to PhoneArena, Nokia had not be making phones as it was under a ‘non-compete’ contract with Microsoft – after the company was taken over by the latter. The images shared by Weibo are not extremely convincing, and the phone appears to be a photoshopped version of earlier Nokia Lumia devices. There have been no official announcements made by Nokia on the D1C as of yet.
