LG G5 starts receiving Android Nougat update in South Korea

LG has started roll out of Android 7.0 Nougat OS for its G5 smartphone, starting with users in South Korea. LG, in a press release said the upgrade will gradually begin rolling out to customers in the Americas, Asia and other markets in the weeks to come. “Getting software updates to our users faster than the competition is our way of demonstrating that LG is committed to supporting our products and customers to ensure they have a positive ownership experience,” said Kim Hyung-jung, senior vice president and head of LG Mobile’s research and development.

Google first started rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat for Nexus devices as well as Pixel C tablet in August. While LG V20 is the first smartphone to come with Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box, the South Korean smartphone maker is the first among competitors to offer the Nougat update after Google devices. Android Nougat brings in a host of a new features along with LG’s own customisations, such as search capability within apps. The multi-window feature allows for app switching by double tapping or running two apps side by side.

LG G5 was launched in India in June 2016 priced at Rs 52,990. It is the first modular smartphone by the company and features a 5.3-inch Quad HD IPS display with ‘always-on mode’. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, and comes with 4GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage.

LG G5 also features a dual rear camera. While the primary rear camera lens is 16MP, the other is an 8MP one that is used for wide-angle shots. LG has tuned its software for both the rear cameras to work independently. We reviewed the phone and found out that it has one of the best smartphone cameras owing to its wide angle capability. It is backed by a 2800 mAh battery that can be expanded to 4,000 mAh using a CAM Plus module.
