Productivity will drive demand for PCs: Logitech MD

A country like India is still a big opportunity for PC as well as PC accessory makers like Logitech

“Smartphones and tablets might have introduced millions of people to the connected world, but those people will now want more out of their devices.” This is why Moninder Jain,Managing Director ASEAN & India Region and Vice President at Logitech, says the quest for productivity will drive the demand for PCs.

“All those who have not experienced a laptop or a desktop will soon start understanding the limitations of a smartphone,” he says, underlining why a country like India is still a big opportunity for PC as well as PC accessory makers like Logitech.

It is not that Logitech hasn’t moved with the times. If there are large hoardings in Nehru Place wooing people to move towards wireless accessories, it is because the company started investing in new mobility products at least three years ago.

“Maybe the anticipation that time was there would be an erosion of the PC. Now that erosion has slowed down,” says Jain. But that head start has given Logitech a good footing in the wireless accessories segment. In fact, it’s largest selling product globally  in 2014 was the Boom wireless speaker.

India, however, is a very different story. Logitech is still known for its keyboards and mice here and that shown in the books too. “Our largest business comes from keyboards and mice. But the new categories are growing much faster,” says Jain. Logitech is still pushing the traditional channels in India but has also “engaged the three key retailers in India”.

The company has four national distributors who have branches in 65 plus cities and have the capacity to cover over 600 cities. That give the Swiss company a good presence in India. To top this up the company now has close to 50 third party service centres.
