Apple’s new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar has been taken apart by iFixit and it looks like the laptop is not so easy to fix, especially the Touch OLED bar. According to the report, the 13-inch model weighs 20 grams lighter (thanks to a smaller battery) and the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar also features a pair of side vents similar to the ones in previous generation Retina MacBook Pros.
iFixit found that the Touch Bar version comes with a smaller battery, lower speakers that do not line up with the grilles and a double-ended heat sink. According to iFixit, the power button on the laptop and the Touch ID are essentially the same on the Touch Bar which makes it difficult to replace one without having to change the entire logic board. The SSD, RAM and processor are soldered to the logic board, make it impossible to upgrade. The battery is also glued down.
iFixit has given the new MacBook Pro a 1/10 repairability rating – which means it is not a friendly user-serviceable device. The Touch Bar assembly broke when it was tried to be removed, and iFixit has deemed it as a difficult part to replace.
