Indian golf took a great leap forward with the Hero Indian Open becoming a European Tour event. And Anirban Lahiri took an even bigger leap forward by winning his second European Tour in three weeks. The win puts him among the very best in the world as a Top-30, which is what he should be around when the new rankings come out on Monday.

Behind Anirban was SSP Chawrasia and Marcus Fraser, who also had a chance was tied third with Swede Joakim Lagergren and Thai Prayad Marksaeng. But Siddikur, the defending champion, who was chasing SSP also fell back and ended tied seventh as he dropped five bogeys between 10th and 15th and his closing bogey was a small consolation.

It was heartening to see Anirban win this tournament barely weeks after he won Maybank Malaysian Open. SSP Chawrasia, who played some stunning golf for the first three days, was unlucky to miss out.

But then he was most candid as he admitted he did not play well today. Still a second place is not bad – though it must hurt to finish there a fourth time.

For me it was a mixed bag. After making the cut on even par, my card of six under in the third round put me in a position for a shot at the title.

Starting on the final morning, things went my way on the front nine where I scored two birdies without dropping a shot.

But the back nine was a different story all together. Three bogeys and a double on the 18th completely ruined my card. The only consolation I can draw is that almost everyone suffered the same fate as windy conditions swept us all away. But we golfers are an optimistic lot. So, my 11th place is a pretty good place to finish with. And I want to come back again, and again till I win the Hero Indian Open, which I consider as ‘my’ National Open.
