One of the most visible Indian cricket fans and an ardent Sachin Tendulkar supporter, Sudhir Gautam was attacked in Bangladesh on Sunday, reports said.
According to a report in IBN Live, Sudhir was ‘mobbed’ outside the stadium as soon as the match got over.
“As soon as I left the stadium, people mobbed me and started snatching the Tricolour, breaking the handle of the flag. Two policemen who were outside the stadium came to my rescue and they escorted me to an auto-rickshaw. But the mob further attacked the auto and tried to break into it. They even hurled stones on the vehicle but luckily the auto was covered completely and I didn’t get hurt,” Sudhir was quoted by the website.
Sudhir is a regular among the crowds whenever India go out to play abroad.
The reason for the attack is still not known but a report in Zee News claims that the fan attacked him to avenge Bangladesh’s loss in the World Cup quarter-final.
Bangladesh defeated India on Sunday in the second successive ODI match to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in 3-match series.
