Ranji Trophy: Varun Sood, Manan Sharma spin it around for Delhi

Punjab needs an outright win to qualify and for that need to keep Delhi under check in second innings.

Punjab lost their last five wickets for 20 runs but did enough to take first innings lead against Delhi in their final Ranji Trophy encounter.

Punjab finished their first innings on 263 in reply to Delhi’s 249 thereby getting a first innings lead of 14 runs.

However, Delhi were 48 for no loss in their second innings with an overall lead of 34 runs.

Punjab needs an outright win to qualify after losing their last game to Odisha and for that need to keep Delhi under check in the second innings.

On Saturday, Punjab were comfortably placed at 243 for five before the collapse started and the home team lost five wickets for 20 runs in exactly eight overs.

For Punjab Mandeep Singh (82) was the top-scorer while Gurkeerat Singh Mann (57) and Himanshu Chawla (50) also made useful contributions.

Left-arm spin duo of Varun Sood (4/73) and Manan Sharma (3/51) shared seven scalps amongst them while off spinner Shivam Sharma got two for 26.

Parthiv powers Gujarat to nine-wicket win over Haryana

Rush Kalaria and captain Parthiv Patel starred in Gujarat’s nine-wicket win over Haryana in an eventful Ranji Trophy Group B match that ended in less than two days.

Haryana went on to add 39 runs to their overnight 71/6, setting a 115-run target for the hosts.

Patel (62*) and Chirag Gandhi (42*) took the team home in 18 overs after opener Priyank Kirit Panchal departed early.

As much as 26 wickets on day one of the match with Haryana and Gujarat making 129 and 125 respectively.

Brief scores: Haryana 129 and 110. Gujarat 125 and 115/1 (Parthiv Patel 62 not out, Chirag Gandhi 42 not out). Points: Gujarat 6, Haryana 0.

Maharashtra in commanding position

Ankit Bawne hit an unbeaten century as Maharashtra scored 342 all out in their first innings before bundling out Vidarbha for a paltry 114 and then enforcing a follow-on on them on the second day of their Ranji Trophy match.

At stumps, Vidarbha reached 26 for no loss in their second innings while following-on, with openers Faiz Fazal (14) and Sachin Katariya (12) on the crease.

Brief scores: Maharashtra 1st innings: 342 all out (Ankit Bawne 100 not out, Rahul Tripathi 43). Vidarbha: 114 all out in 48.5 overs (S Badrinath 27; Domnic Joseph 5/19, Shrikant Mundhe 3/14) & 26 for no loss in 13 overs while following on.

Odisha make dramatic comeback after flop show in 1st innings

Saurashtra bowled out Odisha for a mere 88 to take a 130-run first innings lead but were struggling in their second essay as they lost six wickets for just 64 runs at the end of the second day of their Ranji match.

Odisha made a comeback into the match with a fiery bowling effort. They had Saurashtra teetering at 64 for six with Deepak Behera (3/9) and Basant Mohanty (2/12) sharing five wickets between them.

Brief Scores: Saurashtra 218 and 64 for 6 in 34 overs.(Sheldon Jackson 19, Jaydev Shah 15; Deepak Behera 3/9). Odisha 1st innings: 88 all out in 40.5 overs. (Paresh Patel 27, Girija Rout 18; Sudeep Tyagi 5/24)
