

Anil Kumble turned 46 on Monday and the Indian cricketing fraternity came together to wish India’s head coach. Kumble is currently involved with the Indian team as they take on New Zealand in a five-match ODI series and oversaw a 3-0 whitewash of the Kiwis in the preceding Test series.

Kumble retired from ODIs in 2007. He hung up his boots in all forms the game in 2008 as captain of the Indian Test team. He is the first Indian bowler and only third in the world after Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne to reach 600 Test wickets and is India’s highest wicket-taker in Tests. He is also the only leg spinner to have become the captain of the Indian team in Test cricket. In 1999, he became only the second bowler in Test cricket history to have taken 10 wickets in a single innings, achieving the feat against Pakistan at Delhi.
Since his retirement, he has been the President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association along with former Indian teammate Venkatesh Prasad. In June 2016, he was appointed as the Head Coach of the Indian Cricket team by the BCCI on a one-year contract.
