The World Cup has seen many great spells bowled so today lets take a look at the some of the truly great ones that Indian bowlers have accomplished.
Kapil Dev vs Australia, 1983 World Cup
In this group stage match, India suffered a heavy loss to what seemed to be a superor Aussie outfit, yet there was a silver lining as Indian captain Kapil Dev set the tone for the rest of the tournament with a scintillating 5 wicket haul even as his team slumped to defeat and ended with figures of 5-43.
Zaheer Khan vs New Zealand, 2003 World Cup
This spell helped establish Zaheer Khan as the new anchor of the Indian bowling atttack as he decimated the New Zealand with some quickfire wickets to end with figures of 4-42.
Venkatesh Prasad vs Pakistan, 1999 World Cup
This spell came against rivals Pakistan on the grandest stage and is embedded in every Indian cricket fans memory as the moment when Venkatesh Prasad outstripped even the great Pakistani bowling lineup of Akram, Akhter, Razzaq and Younis.
Ashish Nehra vs England, 2003 World Cup
Ashis Nehra took it upon himself to terrorize the English cricket team as he put on a one man show and ripped apart England’s batting lineup with figures of 6-23. The relatively new seamer made quite a name for himself with this performance.
Javagal Srinath vs Sri Lanka 2003 World Cup
The recently retired Javagal Srinath was convinced by Sourav Ganguly to come back for the World Cup and what a come back it was as the wily veteran tore through Sri Lanka’s top order and ended the game with figures of 4-35 and India went on to win the game by a whopping 183.
