PV Sindhu’s unbeaten run of nine matches panning China Open Superseries last week and this week in Hong Kong comes to an end on Sunday. The Indian was convincingly and effortlessly beaten by Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu-Ying in a show of exquisite touches and gutsy play in tandem. It took her 41 minutes to dispatch Sindhu despite playing a marathon semi-final against Carolina Marin who isn’t an easy customer herself.

The Chinese Taipei player came out on top with a scoreline of 21-15, 21-17.

Both games started with the players toe-to-toe but as the game progressed, Tai Tzu got better with her execution of shots and in reading Sindhu’s play. However, the Indian can’t quite say that with the Taipei player providing plenty of examples of deft touches at the net and dogged persistence to return points.

In the first game, Tai Tzu came back from 7-8 down to pick up eight points on the trot which made plenty of difference in the contest. At some stages, Sindhu looked hapless and confused about her approach and execution.

The second game followed the same script at the start before the World No 3 Tai Tzu grew into the contest with her persistence of making Sindhu play one more shot each time even if the point looked to be over.

After 41 minutes, PV Sindhu sent her backhand into the net after a Tai Tzu drop shot to give the number four seed the title.
