CPI(M) yet to take call on Janata Parivar alliance

Yechury said the CPM will contest the polls mainly with the CPI and CPI (Marxist-Leninist).

The CPM continues to remain non-committal over its possible alliance with the Janata Parivar in the assembly elections in Bihar, saying it will take a decision after discussing “developments” with other Left parties.

“What we have decided is that strengthening of the Left is strengthening a force against communal forces. Left has been the most consistent and will remain the most consistent and strong anti-communal force in the country… We shall meet now with other Left parties and see what developments are taking place and accordingly, take decisions. But now, our decision is to contest these elections along with Left parties,” party General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said on Monday.

Terming the coming together of the Janata Parivar with the JD(U) and RJD, after resolving their differences, as a “very good” development, Yechury said the CPM will contest the polls mainly with the CPI and CPI (Marxist-Leninist), which he said, “was decided some time ago”.

Asked if his party’s doors are open for a larger alliance, he said: “When the time comes, we will see what changes take place. The only door we have kept open is for Left unity.”

“I hope there is consolidation of the process to meet people’s concerns today and against communalism,” he said.
