Letters to the Editor: People Power

It was refreshing to read that former Union law minister and governor of Karnataka, H.R. Bhardwaj, has lambasted his party colleagues for their conduct in recent times.

People Power
This refers to ‘Behind the scenes, in Greece’ (IE, July 2). We must accept that the more confident business houses are, the greater the results will be. Though there is much discussion about the economic slump across the world, companies cannot do their job without human resources. Human resources in India are abundant. So, naturally, companies located in India have better chances of beating economic blues through the greater involvement of manpower. P. Senthil Saravana Durai, Mumbai

Promises broken
Apropos Pratap Bhanu Mehta’s article, ‘The drummer’s silence’ (IE, July 3), on the diminishing credibility of the Narendra Modi government, the ordinary taxi driver in Uttarakhand aptly summed up Modi’s governance as “he plays a new drum everyday”. Mehta cited three counts on which the government’s credibility is in jeopardy: corruption, communalism and dissent. Modi has forgotten his promise when giving his tacit approval to the corruption of Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhara Raje in the Lalit Modi case. He allows the provocative statements of his ministers to continue. He is ruthless in curbing dissent in his own party and in the country. S.R. Purandare, Pune

The stymied global economy adds to the general gloom. The BJP will do well to revert to the classic political structure with both the party and government remaining distinct and separate, yet complementing each other. R. Narayanan, Ghaziabad

Out of touch
It was refreshing to read that former Union law minister and governor of Karnataka, H.R. Bhardwaj, has lambasted his party colleagues for their conduct in recent times. He has said that the proposition of his party to stall the functioning of Parliament if no action is taken against Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhara Raje is improper and childish. He has also said Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is out of touch with ground reality, a bold statement. I hope other Congressmen also revolt and come out openly against the dynasty. The dynasty should come to an end. Hemant Hemmady, Virar
