‘Will quit cricket if blood test is positive’

Pune Warriors player Rahul Sharma on Monday claimed that he had been invited to a birthday party.

Pune Warriors player Rahul Sharma on Monday claimed that he had been invited to a birthday party. “I was invited to a birthday party. Wayne Parnell was with me,I did not know that there was a rave party at the hotel,” said the spinner. He was talking to reporters here after arriving from Mumbai.

Sharma,along with teammate Parnell,was among 91 persons detained after the raid on the party.

“I am innocent and I totally stay away from liquor and have never touched it,” Sharma told the reporters.

About being present at the party,he said he had gone to Mumbai for a meeting and in the evening Parnell asked him to accompany him to a birthday party of his friend. He said after reaching the venue he had water and was standing in a corner when the police raided the place. Sharma said if anything wrong was found in his blood sample then he would quit cricket.

Meanwhile,in a statement,the BCCI said: “The players had completed their commitments for the 2012 IPL season… There will be no further comment or action by BCCI-IPL until the results of the investigation…are known.” (With ENS Mumbai)
