The beleaguered police personnel, finding themselves at the receiving end of judicial ire for their conduct during the infamous lawyers-police clash in the Madras High Court premises, received a boost on Monday when senior IAS officials of the state urged the state Government to ensure justice to the police personnel and demanded that they be provided the best counsel to argue their cases successfully.

A resolution adopted by the Tamil Nadu IAS Officers’ Association pointed out that the police force was duty bound to maintain law and order in the High Court campus. “We do not condone or support police excesses. However,we are deeply concerned that this complex,multi-faceted problem is being treated in some quarters as a one-sided issue of police excesses,” read the resolution that was submitted to the Chief Secretary on Monday morning.

The state Government should take steps to ensure that all including the police would be treated with fairness, equality before law and equal protection of the law, said the resolution.
