Rebel’s death: Cops name CPM leaders

Police on Monday submitted the chargesheet in the murder of CPM rebel leader T P Chandrasekharan in a magistrate’s court at Vatakara in Kozhikode.

Several district and local level CPM leaders are among the 76 people listed as accused. Prominent among them are P Mohanan,husband of party legislator K K Lathika,and state committee member K K Ragesh. Chandrasekharan was killed on May 4 this year.

In Idukki,police submitted an FIR in a magistrate’s court,making senior CPM leader M M Mani the third accused in the 1982 murder of Youth Congress worker Anjeri Baby. The case was re-opened recently after Mani revealed that the party had murdered its political rivals.

Soon after the Kerala High Court rejected his application for anticipatory bail in the murder case of Muslim League worker Abdul Shukoor,CPM legislator T V Rajesh surrendered before a magistrate court in Kannur on Monday. The court remanded him in judicial custody for ten days. The 38-year-old state secretary of the DYFI,the youth outfit of the CPM,is the 39th accused in the case. He has been charged under Section 118 of the IPC. Police sources said his custody will not be sought for further questioning as his statement was recorded earlier. Along with party district secretary P Jayarajan,also an accused in the case,Rajesh was reportedly present in the hospital room where the plan to murder Shukoor was plotted. Jayarajan was arrested two weeks back. Of the 39 accused,four are still absconding.
