The criminal proceedings against senior DMK leader and former deputy chief minister M K Stalin and his actor-producer son Udhayanidhi Stalin was quashed by the High Court of Madras on Monday after the complainant who charged them of threatening him to part with his high-value property withdrew the complaint following an out-of-court settlement.

Stalin,Udhayanidhi and five others were accused of threatening N Seshadri Kumar to part with his property that lay next to Stalin’s residence in Chennai in favour of P Venugopal Reddy for Rs 5.54 crore.

The house situated on the land was subsequently leased out to a film company run by Udhayanidhi.

This happened in August 2008 when the DMK was in power and Stalin was the all-powerful deputy CM. But after the regime change following the Assembly elections a year ago,the complaint surfaced stating that they used threats and intimidations to usurp the property that the original owner was not inclined to sell.
