The COVID-19 tsunami: How can we save India’s frontline workers from drowning?

The country is in SOS mode and gruesome visuals, each more heart wrenching than the last, populate our social feeds every day. If the last pandemic was a crashing wave, this one waved in like a tsunami. Just last week, Delhi was clocking 1 death every 4 minutes—a number that has only continued to climb ever since.
In these trying times, the citizenry is stepping up to help one another. The country’s frontline workers and critical COVID-19 patients are in dire need of support as India continues to log over 3 lakh cases every day. A recent video that went viral sent a shiver down the country’s spine, showing patients forced to share hospital beds.
Other than the fact that patients are forced to share beds, even doctors are failing to secure beds for themselves despite being in a critical state. In recent news, a UP doctor also lost his life to COVID-19 due to a shortage of ventilators at the hospital he worked at for 50 years. IMA reported 747 doctor deaths due to COVID-19.
At the same time, states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh comprise the top 5 states struggling to secure enough oxygen to save critical patients. As patients waiting in long queues outside hospitals and relatives clamber to get oxygen cylinders, lives are being lost by the dozen. India is losing its frontline to the illness too.
Providing oxygen support and other essential supplies
Hospitals in the country are in dire need of COVID-19 essential supplies. These include oxygen cylinders for critical care patients to Medicare beds, oximeters, masks, hand sanitizers and PPE kits for healthcare workers on the frontline. This severe shortage is costing Indian lives. On 28th May 2021 alone, official sources reported 3465 deaths across the nation. Many of these occurred due to buckling hospitals, which were overflowing and running out of resources.
Crowdfunding online for these resources can prove more effective now than ever. Everyone can make a small contribution to supply the climbing demand while staying safe inside their homes. With oxygen support, ImpactGuru aims to provide hospitals with these essential supplies. With solid backing for our #IndiaFightsOxygenCrisis campaign to procure oxygen concentrators for hospitals, we now aim to equip them with the other bare essentials needed to fight the pandemic.
We urge you to help equip our hospitals with essential supplies such as:
Help equip our healthcare workers and hospitals to function at their 100%, and extend a helping hand to our fellow Indians critical with the illness. Together, we can all be catalysts that help India weather the COVID-19 tsunami.
