Go for a Jewish-Bengali meal with Authenticook
Over the years Kolkata has assimilated many people into its clamourous embrace, and one such people are Jews. While the number of Jews in Kolkata is dwindling by the day, the food they cook — after adapting their recipes to Indian spices and flavours — is rated very highly. This Sunday, Pia Promina Das Gupta, whose family owns Kewpie’s Kitchen in Kolkata, will host guests for a Bengali-Jewish meal. The menu includes cheese sambosak (the middle-eastern baked samosa with a cheese filling); aloo makalla (pan-roasted joints of chicken with confit potatoes), challah and, among others, mahashas (vegetables stuffed with a rice filling).
