Politics, society and economics aside, the British monarchy has always been a point of interest and fascination, especially when it comes to fashion, and the current favourite is The Duchess of Cambridge. Known for her simple-yet-classy style, the royal has been making waves with her sartorial choices and her ability to mix and match and recycle her favourite clothes has made her the darling of the fashion industry.
So, it’s no surprise that on December 8, at the annual evening reception for members of the Diplomatic Corps at Buckingham Palace, the Duchess stayed true to her self in a bespoke red Jenny Packham gown which she previously wore for her first state banquet at Buckingham Palace in October 2015. Last year, the mother-of-two chose this floor-sweeping gown in honour of Chinese president Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan. The gorgeous number consists of a fitted round bodice with a round neck, cap sleeves and a beautiful, long romantic skirt.
But what caught our attention is Princess Diana’s tiara, the Cambridge Lover’s Knot, atop her head. According to People, this was one of Princess Diana’s favourite tiaras, even though it used to give her headaches, owing to its heavy weight. The tiara which was made by Royal jewellers Garrard in 1914 and handed down to generations is actually a replica of an 1818 design owned by Queen Mary’s grandmother, Princess Augusta of Hesse. The Queen gave it to Prince William’s mother as a wedding gift in 1981.
Princess Diana looked beautiful in this tiara but so does her daughter-in-law, especially with that gorgeous red dress.
