Everyone may not be patriotic throughout the year, but on Independence Day, the whole ‘my country’ feeling kicks in. People dress up in hues of the tricolour, eat tricolour themed food, go to special events to celebrate the spirit of freedom; the list goes on. If you are in the mood to celebrate big and need help with dressing up this Independence day then here are a few styling tips to up your style game.
Designer Rashmi Modi: Go traditional in a white Lucknowi kurta or a pastel handloom piece and accessorise it with chic saffron/silver juttis, traditional silver bangles and earrings. Wear your nude make-up with a bindi on your forehead and for the hairdo, go for fish braids. Alternatively, if you are more comfortable wearing your jeans, then there is nothing trendier than pairing your ripped blue denims with a block printed white/pastel saffron-ish top. You can team it up with a pair of traditional Kolhapuri and vintage silver jhumkis. Don’t forget to put on orange lip shade for that pop of colour.
Designer Bhumika Grover: This Independence Day being a long weekend there are chances that everyone will be away on a vacation. Let’s say if you are at the beach for a holiday then skip the boring white kurta and be different. You can team up an off-shoulder top with white shorts. If not in the mood for shorts then you can opt for a playsuit and style it up with beach chappals in orange or green. To add a little spunk to the outfit, you can wear a orange/green headgear too.
You can also go for a nice green kaftan with your white playsuit and team it up with a snazzy orange leather watch and cross-body in white. For your time in the water, pick a bikini in the shades of white and blue, a classic combination which can never go wrong. Wear a body chain and some small green enamel based earrings.
Sunaina Harjai, founder, Hats off accessories: If you are heading out for a movie or a coffee date with friends, we would recommend you wearing shorts with a printed top and team it up with white sneakers. You don’t need to dress yourself up in saffron, green and white at all times. You can keep things subtle like experiment with nail paints in shades of saffron and green if you plan to do an all white outfit or add some drama with eyeliner in shimmery shades of green or blue. It will give you the much needed pop.
