The Jammu and Kashmir government has granted awards worth Rs 1.79 crore to around 5,000 students in the state under a Centre’s programme to attract youth to study science.
Under the ‘Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research’ programme,as many as 4,994 award warrants worth Rs 1.79 crore were issued to students during this fiscal, Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed said at a two-day state level mega Science Exhibition organised by State Institute of Education.
In the first phase,the minister said 2,863 awardee prepared models and projects and participated in different district level science exhibitions throughout the state.
As many as 197 students have been selected for participation in the State Level Exhibition,while 10 students among them would be selected for participation in the National Level Exhibition to be held in New Delhi on August 14,the minister said.
The minister hopes that these students will get due encouragement and recognition to their talent,so that more interest for scientific pursuits is developed in them.
Talent of students needs to be channelised in right direction for better results,he said,calling for inculcating scientific temper among the students to make them potential stake holders in Science and Technology.
Modern era calls for grooming the new generation in Science and Technology,which is making rapid progress over the world, the minister said.
