Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday continued his tirade against the Modi government over the demonetisation issue. Speaking at a rally in Belgaum, Karnataka, the Congress leader slammed the prime minister for mocking farmers in the Parliament house. “PM Modi made fun of farmers in Parliament house by saying they dig holes. Then he made fun of MNREGA, which is like a lifeline for farmers. Cash ban will only benefit 50 families who are Modi’s friends,” he said.
He went on to term demonetisation as a ‘Modi-made disaster’. “Like you say man-made disaster in English, the same way demonetisation is Modi-made disaster,” said Gandhi. The Congress vice-president also said he wants to ask the PM that if Vijay Mallya is a thief, then how come your government has given him a Rs 1,200 crore relief. “Why did you waive the loan amount?” asked Rahul.
More than 100 people had died, he claimed, adding, “Fidel Castro (Cuban revolutionary) was remembered in the
Parliament and we stood in silence for two minutes as a mark of respect to him, but BJP leaders did not have two minutes time for these hundred people.” “Who is responsible for their deaths? Narendra Modi is responsible….In the last two and half years Narendra Modi government has been attacking the poor,” he said.
On Friday, Rahul Gandhi dared the PM Modi-led government to place the list of names of black money account holders procured by the Swiss authorities in the floor of the house. He said the Congress will offer 100 per cent support to the NDA government, if it genuinely fights against blackmoney and corruption, but demonetisation was not the way forward. “If BJP government takes small or big steps against corruption, Congress party will offer cent per cent support to the NDA government. But demonitisation drama is not against corruption or blackmoney… The decision of notebandi is an assault against 99 per cent honest citizens in the country. It’s an attack against cash economy and poor people,” he said.
Terming the corrupt and blackmoney hoarders as ‘Chor’, he said that they were smart enough to convert their ill-gotten wealth into other forms of assets beforehand. “All cash money is not blackmoney and all blackmoney is not cash…Only 6 per cent of blackmoney is in the form of cash, (choranve) per cent blackmoney is in other forms like land, deposit in Swiss bank, gold and real-estate,” he had said.
The Congress vice-president had asserted on Thursday that he had personal information on PM Modi’s ‘personal corruption’, following which some parties within the Opposition, asked him to make public his assertion that he has evidence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “personal corruption”.
