The Punjab and Haryana High Court has recommended names of three Haryana District and Sessions Judges for elevation as High Court judges. These are Kuldip Jain, legal remembrancer and administrative secretary oflaw and legislative department of the Haryana government; Inderjeet Mehta and Anil Kumar Singh Panwar who are District and Sessions Judges of Faridabad and Panipat, respectively.
The names were recommended in a recently held meeting by the High Court collegium comprising Chief Justice Shiavax Jal Vazifdar, Justice SS Saron and Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal. The High Court is functioning with the strength of 47 judges against the sanctioned strength of 85 and around 2.84 lakh cases are pending adjudication before the High Court.
Recently,on December 12 former Patiala District and Sessions Judge Harminder Singh Madaantook oath as additional judge of the High Court after his name got final stamp of the President of India. However, names of other two Punjab judicial officers, High Court Registrar General Gurvinder Singh Gill and Jalandhar District and Sessions Judge Raj Shekhar Attri, are still pending clearance for elevation as High Court judges.
The High Court collegium had in June this year also recommended names of senior advocate Anil Kshetarpal, advocates Arvind Singh Sangwan, Rajbir Sehrawat, Mahabir Singh Sindhu, Major Sudhir Mittal (retd.), Harnaresh Singh Gill and Avneesh Jhingan for elevation as High Court judges. But their names are also pending clearance.
