Despite the BJP top rung’s warning against drawing comparisons between senior party leaders and gods, Satyapal Singh, the party MP from Baghpat on Tuesday compared Union Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma with lord Shiva during a public meeting. Singh also told the audience that the tourism minister, who was also present at the meeting, has lots of money and can give whatever one asks for.
In Baghpat for the inauguration of a tourism circuit, Singh said, “Ye humare beech aaye hain….Ye swayam mein Mahesh hain. Paise ki inke paas koi kami nahi hai. Jo mangoge wo milega. (He is among us…he really is Mahesh (lord Shiva). He has no dearth of money. Whatever you ask for, he will give).”
Singh also said, “Yagya mein inko aashirwaad mila ki ye raja banein. Raja to hain hi, maharaja banein. UP mein bhagwakaran mein unko mahatvapoorna bhumika mile, aisi meri kaamna hai (He got a blessing that he would become a king. A king he is, he will become an emperor. It is my wish that he plays a significant role in saffronisation of UP),” he said. During his speech, Sharma did not react to Singh’s comments.
