DMK president M Karunanidhi Friday underwent tracheostomy to optimise breathing, a medical bulletin issued by Kauvery Hospital said on Friday. The bulletin added that the condition of the 92-year-old leader is “stable” and he is “on antibiotics and is being treated by a team of doctors.”
On Thursday night, the former Chief Minister was admitted to the hospital for the second time in the last three weeks. Meanwhile, senior DMK leaders kept thronging the hospital to enquire about the health of the party supremo.
Karunanidhi’s readmission to the hospital comes about a week after he was discharged from there on December 7, following a week-long treatment for drug-induced allergy.
On October 25, DMK had announced that Karunanidhi was suffering from allergy “caused by a medicine he has been using” and advised rest. Since he fell ill, the leader had confined himself to his home, but issued statements on issues such as demonetisation.
