Police awaits Govind Pansare’s wife’s response on sketches of the assailants

Insiders indicated that police teams are not solely relying on sketches and have widened their scope of investigation.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said, “Maharashtra will not tolerate individuals taking law and order in their hand to serve vested interest of any kind. The investigation in the killing of veteran Communist leader Govind Pansare will be taken to its logical end to expose the culprits and their motives.” The chief minister is personally monitoring the Pansare case which is being probed by 20 teams spread across Maharashtra.

The police team investigating the killing of Govind Pansare are awaiting the response from his wife Uma on the sketches prepared about the two assailants who fired at Pansare. A senior officer in the ministry of home said, “police have also picked up some leads talking to the locals which cannot be shared at this moment as it would thwart the investigation.”

Highly placed sources in Mantralay revealed to The Indian Express, ” the 20 teams lead by Director General of Police Sanjeev Dayal is moving in right track. So, sketches based on the information elicited from some of the eye witnesses have been completed. However, it would be soon shared with Pansare’s wife who was accompanying him at the time of the incident.”

Insiders indicated that police teams are not solely relying on sketches and have widened their scope of investigation further to find the exact motive behind the killing. Three aspects which are being discussed includes, “Toll tax agitation, role of right wing fundamentalist or pro-Shivaji brigade and internal politics and skirmishes at Kolhapur between left and others.”

Although the entire investigation is under wraps, a senior officer, hinted, “We have managed to get an eyewitness apart from the wife of Pansare who could be crucial in giving leads about the killers.”

Last Monday, Pansare and his wife while returning from the morning walk were shot by unknown persons who rode a motorbike in Kolhapur. Pansare died on Friday. Uma, his wife who also sustained injuries is recovering well.

A senior officer in the home department revealed, “Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis who holds the home portfolio is personally monitoring the case. And has given clear directives to investigate all aspects political and economic to expose the culprits who engaged in the brutal killing of Pansare.”

Fadnavis said, ” The government is determined to punish the culprits. The state cannot tolerate such brutal attack against an individual.” My government will not rest till we book the culprits and do justice to the family of Pansare, he added.
