In their continued attempts to push terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistani troops and Rangers resorted to unprovoked mortar shelling at various places along the Line of Control in Poonch district and Pallanwalla area near Akhnoor in Jammu since late Sunday night.
Later, the small arms fire and shelling by Pakistani troops spread to Bhimber Gali area of adjoining Rajouri district and Pallanwalla near Akhnoor in Jammu.
The latest incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistan is the 20th such incident by Pakistan along the Line of Control and International Border in Jammu Kashmir since July. Four people including three jawans have been killed and 14 injured in Pakistani firing from across the border at different places during this period.

Pointing out that nearly half a dozen forward Indian positions along the LoC in Krishna Ghati, Balakote and Sabjian area in Poonch were affected, sources said that Pakistani troops suddenly resorted to heavy shelling around 10 pm so as to provide cover fire to facilitate a group of terrorists entering into KG sector. The Indian Army retaliated effectively and foiled the infiltration bid by terrorists, who retreated to the Pakistan side.
The exchange of fire continued till wee hours of Monday morning, sources said, adding that there was no casualty or damage to property on the Indian side.
Sources said that following the failed infiltration attempts, Pakistan has been desperate to push armed terrorists into the state before onset of winter when mountainous passes close due to snowfall. There were nearly 200 terrorists camping at launching pads on Pakistan side of the LoC and the International Border looking for a chance to sneak into the Indian territory.
On Saturday, Pakistani Rangers had resorted to unprovoked mortar shelling on three forward BSF positions along the International Border in Pargwal area near Akhnoor on Saturday. The BSF retaliated effectively and there was no casualty or damage to property on the Indian side.
