Police on Monday arrested one more AAI staff at Kozhikode International Airport in connection with last week’s melee between AAI staff and CISF men, which culminated in the death of a security guard in an accidental firing.
Police identified the arrested as Aji Kumar, a supervisor with the fire and rescue wing at the airport. The nine other fire and rescue staff members arrested earlier would face charges of culpable homicide and attempt to murder.

It was Kumar who had picked up a verbal fight with CISF sub-inspector Sitaram Chaudhari over mandatory inspection at the airport before entering the air area of the airport through the ATC gate. CCTV footage showed that Kumar called his colleagues, who later reached the gate to attack the sub-inspector. Kumar too was assaulted in the melee, which led to the accidental firing from Chaudhari’s fire arm. Kumar has been under treatment since. He was arrested soon after the hospital discharged him.
On Sunday, four CISF men were arrested on charges of rioting at the airport following the death of head constable S S Yadav.
