Isn’t your allegation about being asked about your caste at variance with what you wrote in the Dwarka temple visitors’ book?
I made it very clear it was not in the main Dwarka temple. I have clarified it then and today also. I have also said I was treated well at the main temple.
Why do you think the BJP raised the issue today?
I don’t know. You should ask them. The discussion was over that day, I wanted to move on. I had nothing against the temple or the priests. But I am treated now as if I have a committed a crime. Why are they grilling me as if I am a criminal? Even today I clarified that I understand the difference between caste and gotra. You are asked about your gotra in temples, but this was different. They had asked me about my caste.
The BJP calls it “manufactured discrimination.”
Had I wanted action, I would have made it a big issue then and sought action against the priests. Had I done that, it would have been a much bigger issue. I still don’t want to make it a big issue. It came up just because it was a speech on B R Ambedkar. I wanted to say that some things have not changed for 5,000 years and they will not change either.
Do you think the matter is settled now?
Not, it’s not over. All parties have taken it up. The Opposition parties have to take a decision now. The government has to find a way to end the impasse. We are cooperating with the government after three days of excellent discussions. The Opposition decided to keep this issue aside to take up the flood situation, nor did I press further. This shows our spirit.
Do you want an apology from the government?
Let’s see what they come up with tomorrow so that the situation ends amicably. They created the situation; the ball is in their court.
