Uttar Pradesh Polls: There may be no Muslim MLA if you don’t vote for BSP, warns Naseemuddin Siddiqui

Claiming that Dalits and Muslims are facing atrocities under the BJP government, Naseemuddin Siddiqui said “ghar wapsi”, love jihad, beef and cow protection were campaigns meant to harass Muslims or Dalits.

BSP general secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui on Wednesday cautioned that there may be no Muslim MLA in the state Assembly if the minority community doesn’t support the BSP in the upcoming polls, and implored them to unitedly support BSP candidates.

“Behen Mayawatiji had urged you not to waste your votes on Congress or Samajwadi Party in Lok Sabha polls, but you didn’t listen. So, not a single Muslim MP was elected. Now if your votes are divided again this time, it may happen that no Muslim MLA will get elected,” he told a gathering at Muslim-majority Bahai village near Lalganj in Sareni Assembly segment of Rae Bareli.

Siddiqui, regarded as the party’s Muslim face, was addressing a BSP Bhaichara Sammelan aimed at wooing Muslims for the party’s Sareni candidate, Thakur Prasad Yadav. The BSP is working hard to stitch together Dalit-Muslim votes before the elections, as support from the minority communities will give it an edge over other parties.

Claiming that Dalits and Muslims are facing atrocities under the BJP government, he said “ghar wapsi”, love jihad, beef and cow protection were campaigns meant to harass Muslims or Dalits, and for diverting people’s attention from BJP government’s failures.

“Dalits were stripped and beaten up in Una in the name of cow protection. Musalmanon ki roz thukaai ho rahi hai, ye gau raksha ho rahi hai(Muslims are being beaten up everyday in the name of cow protection),” he said.

He said more than 400 communal riots have taken place during the SP government, and alleged that most of them were orchestrated by SP and BJP.

“BJP will remain in existence as long as SP exists. And SP will remain till BJP is there. Both will get finished together,” he said as he urged Muslims to abandon SP.

He said Muslims have supported the Congress, Janata Party in the past and have been supporting the SP for more than 20 years.

“But they still have to complain that their grievances are not being heard by the government. Muslims need to generate political acumen. They vote for BSP, but how much, we both know. Scheduled Castes are 24 per cent of population and Muslims are 20 per cent, while only 30 per cent votes make governments,” he said.

Hitting back at BJP president Amit Shah, who has been referring to him as a goon in his speeches, Siddiqui said Shah says his party has no goons while BJP state president Keshav Maurya faced several criminal cases. He said Shah himself faced criminal cases before the BJP came to power at the Centre and his cases ended. Siddiqui said Modi has made the whole country stand in queues “as a conspiracy to divert attention” because the BJP government failed to deliver on its promises made during Lok Sabha elections. Calling himself a farmer’s son, Siddiqui said the poor farmers, labourers and small traders are queuing up outside banks to get money while those who have black money are standing beside Modi.

“Farmers and labourers don’t have black money, Ambani and Adani have and they are by your side, Modiji,” he alleged.

He said the Congress and BJP governments have been involved in corruption, citing various scams like 2G spectrum scam and Bofors scam.

Tiloi MLA Mohammad Muslim, who switched to BSP from Congress a few months back, said Modi is a “demon who is bent on destroying the country”. Referring to checks put by the Centre over withdrawal of money from banks after demonetisation of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes, Muslim said Modi is such “a person who can even snatch your right to vote”.
