RASHTRIYA LOK Dal (RLD) president Ajit Singh on Monday said that “at present”, he was not in talks with any party for a pre-poll alliance for the 2017 UP polls.

Singh had met SP president Mulayam Singh Yadav and party in-charge Shivpal Singh Yadav in New Delhi in May. The meetings had sparked a buzz about the possibility of the two parties entering into an alliance. Earlier, there were reports of RLD’s merger with JD(U) and also Ajit meeting BJP leaders.

Speaking to mediapersons in Lucknow, Singh said he had not spoken to either SP or BJP regarding an alliance. He, however, maintained silence on BSP. “At present, there are no talks with any party,” he said.

Targeting the SP government, the RLD president said the law and order situation has collapsed in the state and corruption is flourishing unabated.

“Mulayam and Shivpal are admitting that lands are being grabbed and officers are involved in corruption. But, who is responsible to rectify the situation?… The SP government has failed to meet its poll promises,” he added.

On BJP, Singh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was unaware of facts regarding payment of dues to sugarcane farmers. “During his rally in Saharanpur, Modi said that only Rs 700 crore cane dues of farmers were pending, but the news said that it was actually Rs 5,000 crore,” he said, alleging that the PM does not have any idea about the figures, and questioned how he would ensure the welfare of farmers.

“Modi, in his Independence Day speech, said that 99 per cent of farmers’ dues have been paid. He only likes publicity. His poll promises have turned into gimmicks,” Singh said.

He also repeated his demand of reconstitution of UP, saying that it was not possible for a single person to run such a huge state.
