Two Rajasthan HC judges return to Punjab & Haryana HC

Both the judges were elevated as additional judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on September 25, 2014, and were later transferred to Rajasthan High Court.

Justices Anupinder Singh Grewal and Jaishree Thakur of the Rajasthan High Court are going to join back the Punjab and Haryana High Court before October 10.

Both these judges were elevated as additional judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on September 25, 2014, and were later transferred to Rajasthan High Court. Justice Grewal took oath as Rajasthan High Court judge in December 2014 and Justice Thakur in January 2015.

As per the notification issued by the union Ministry of Law and Justice on Monday, the President of India in consultation with the Chief Justice of India has approved transfer of Justices Grewal and Thakur to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. They have been directed to assume charge of their respective offices on or before October 10.

As of now the Punjab and Haryana High Court has 44 judges, including the Chief Justice, against the sanctioned strength of 85.

When the Supreme Court had taken a decision to transfer these judge to Rajasthan High Court in 2014, seven retired judges of the Supreme Court and Chief Justices of various High Courts settled in Chandigarh had shot off a letter to the Chief Justice of India as to why only these judges were picked up for transfer without assigning any reasons.

These include Justices (retd) Kuldeep Singh, SS Sodhi, MS Liberhan, MS Gujral, HS Bedi, RN Aggarwal and MS Gill.
